In 1600 feudal Japan on the brink of civil war, Lord Yoshii Toranaga faces united enemies on the Council of Regents. When a mysterious European ship carrying English pilot John Blackthorne washes ashore, Toranaga turns Blackthorne’s knowledge of Western weaponry and religion into a weapon to consolidate power.
